… Here, the recordings were made in an underground assembly of cement tanks that serve not merely as a backdrop but as an integral component of the sound. The tanks varied in size and were equipped with openings above and below ground level. This architectural peculiarity provides the album with an unusual resonant palette. In generating the auditory landscape, Capricorni Pneumatici applied a mix of implements including sheets of metal, hammers, PVC pipes, air compressors, and corrugated tubes. … Nel buio abissale della memoria sotterranea dell’underground degli anni ’80 risuona ancora l’eco primordiale di Al-Azif, il secondo lavoro dei Capricorni Pneumatici. Un’opera intrisa di mistero e fascino, registrata in un luogo segreto, una sorta di cattedrale del suono sotterraneo, dove il cemento vetrificato cela le vibrazioni di un’esperienza unica ed esoterica. Immersi nelle profondità di vasche gigantesche, il gruppo ha plasmato il suono con l’ausilio di strumenti inusuali: lamiere, martelli, tubi in PVC, compressori d’aria, tubi corrugati. Le fonti sonore sono le più disparate (sono state utilizzati e dissezionati strumenti come Tibetan bowl, maracas, metal percussion, una music machine della fine del 800, uno zyther degli anni 20, bowed 12 strings guitar, un trombone T-bone, electric guitar, tubular bells, Irish drum, un DX7II, sax soprano e field recordings). …”Nibbas” usciva nel 1989 per la nostrana Minus Habens unicamente su cassetta e viene ora riproposto dalla Eighth Tower per la prima volta in CD nella sua versione integrale rimasterizzata. I sei brani hanno un andamento compatto, incentrato su basi cupe e uniformi fatte di poche variazioni, sorta di minimalismo sinistro che rimanda a scenari evocativi. Gli echi ambientali creano atmosfere sciamaniche pregne di un esoterismo difficilmente descrivibile a parole, dove ogni pezzo è un mantra unidirezionale semplice e diretto in grado di trasmettere l’effetto giusto con pochi fondamentali elementi.
