The filming of “Securitè” in Paris during December 2020 places the work in a specific socio-political crucible. During this time, France was embroiled in massive protests against the Loi sécurité globale (Global Security Law). The video’s title and imagery directly engage with the concept of “surveillance capitalism” and the “disciplinary society”. The camera acts as both the observer and the observed, mirroring the intrusive nature of modern security cameras.
The auditory component of “Securitè” relies on the physics of sound to manipulate the viewer’s emotional state, creating “polyrhythms” between the eye and the ear with a sense of “dissonance” that forces the viewer to remain alert and uncomfortable, reflecting the theme of living under constant “security” surveillance.
